Classically trained violinist and violist Laurel Thomsen enjoys performing, composing, improvising, and studio recording across a variety of genres and with ensembles ranging from orchestras to bands and singer-

songwriters, most recently Winnipeg, Manitoba based Dan Frechette. Based in Santa Cruz, California, Laurel is frequently sought for her ability to add depth and emotion to all types of music and her knack for creating infectious melodies.

Laurel has sustained a private lessons studio since 1996, and since 2009, also online via Skype. Laurel is the creator and host of the Violin Geek Podcast, a regular contributor of string technique articles for Strings magazine, and author of Improve Your Bowing Technique, and Improve Your Violin and Viola Technique, beginner through advanced level book/video guides available through String Letter Publishing.
